The Army is looking for alternatives to its current multi-factor authentication process in an effort to keep its online resources accessible while maintaining high security, according to a recent news release. The current system requires soldiers to use their Common Access Card and personal identification number to log into a government computer system, but National Guard and Reserve members, who don't have consistent access to government computers, may be left without a good way to access resources. Two alternatives under consideration include an authentication app that can be downloaded to a mobile device, and a pre-registered device known as a Yubikey. Both are in testing; an app prototype will be available this fall, and Yubikey user and field testing will begin in May. Read more at Army.mil.
