Some troops attached to U.S. Forces Korea recently received certificates of commendation for their efforts to fight a historic wildfire that tore through the country, according to an Army news release. The honors were presented by Gen. Robert "Abe" Abrams, commanding general of U.S. Forces Korea, United Nations Command, and Combined Forces Command. He gave the soldiers commanders coins on behalf of Republic of Korea Army Joint Chief of Staff Gen. Park Hanki. Soldiers with 2-2 Assault Helicopter Battalion and 3-2 General Support Aviation Battalion, 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division/ROK-U.S. Combined Division, mobilized April 5-6 to support efforts to contain and extinguish wildfires in Gangwon province, northeast of Seoul. The aviation brigade sent four helicopters and 21 soldiers to partner with the Republic of Korea Army III Corps Command, helping to fight the fire from the air. Read more at Army.mil.
