Vietnam Veterans Day Commemorated with Ceremonies Nationwide

For Vietnam Veterans Day, which is March 29, commemorative ceremonies will be held at more than 900 locations across the globe, including veterans cemeteries, VA hospitals and other locations. Visit http://www.vietnamwar50th.com/events/ to find an event in your area.

Many Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and Navy Exchange locations will also honor Vietnam veterans with commemorative ceremonies and presentations of Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins and other articles in appreciation of their service.

Top Vietnam Veterans Day Events

New York City

The United War Veterans Council's annual Vietnam Veterans Day Commemoration will take place Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 66 Water St., New York City. This year's outdoor activities will include a tribute march, name reading, wreath laying, motorcycle ride and resource fair. Get more information here.

The Wall That Heals - Hawaiian Gardens, presented by VFW Post 7243 and VFW District 4, will be on display from March 23-26, 2023 at 21409 S. A Vietnam Veteran Recognition event will be held March 27, 2023, at the Mesa Vet Center, 1303 S. Longmore, Mesa, Arizona. Representatives from the Vietnam War Commemoration will pin any Vietnam veterans in attendance.

Philadelphia Area

At the Honoring our Vietnam Veterans event on March 24, 2023, the San Diego Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will honor Vietnam veterans with a luncheon that includes a pinning ceremony and certificates of service. Dallas/Fort Worth Area

The city of Burleson, Texas, will hold a Vietnam Veterans Day Event on March 25, 2023, at Veterans Memorial Plaza, 298 E. Renfro St. The Burleson Fire Department Honor Guard will present the nation's colors, raise the POW/MIA flag, lay a wreath and play taps in tribute to military veterans. View details here.

First Baptist Church holds a Waxahachie Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration on March 26, 2023, at 459 US-287 BYP, Mansfield, Texas. After Sunday services, a luncheon will be provided for all attendees to recognize, honor and welcome home Vietnam veterans. Call 509-953-0169 for information.

Columbus, Ohio, Area

The National Veterans Memorial and Museum hosts the Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans special ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. March 29, 2023. Museum admission is free all day to all guests to mark the 50th anniversary of the return home of U.S. combat troops from Vietnam and the repatriation of U.S. prisoners of war (POWs). The ceremony will feature a keynote speech from retired U.S. Navy Capt. Charles “Charlie” J. Plumb, a former “Top Gun” jet fighter pilot who completed 75 combat missions before being shot down by a surface-to-air missile, ejecting from his aircraft, parachuting into enemy territory and enduring six years as a POW. The Daughters of the American Revolution Worthington Chapter will present the Honorary Partner distinction to Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Chapter 670 on March 23, 2023, at 700 Morning St., Worthington, Ohio. Vietnam veterans and surviving spouses will also be recognized.

San Francisco Area

The USS Hornet Museum presents National Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 25, 2023, at 707 W. Hornet Ave., Alameda, Calif. A program of speakers and a ceremony will culminate in a wreath toss off a ship. Local veterans groups will be on hand as vendors as well. View details here.

The Silver Spring Vet Center hosts a Vietnam Veterans Celebration on March 27, 2023, at 9707 Rosensteel Ave., Silver Spring, Maryland. The Milwaukee Chapter DAR hosts the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem event on March 25, 2023, at 600 21st Street, Racine, Wisconsin. Vietnam veterans will be honored at the dinner with a ceremony and special pins.

Raleigh/Durham, N.C., Area

The Vietnam Era Women Veterans Recognition Event, presented by Triangle Women Veterans, will be March 25, 2023, at 8315 Chapel Hill Road, Cary, North Carolina. Honorees will be presented with lapel pins and Quilt of Honor. Click here for details.

The VVA Honorary Partner Ceremony for VVA Chapter 787 takes place March 25, 2023, at 649 Fort Duquesna Drive, Sun City Center, Florida. Orlando

The Honoring FPCO Vietnam Era Veterans event is planned for March 26, 2023, at 4561 Ironstone Circle, Orlando. Members of the FPCO Basics Foundation Class as well as other members of the FPCO congregation who are qualified to receive a commemorative lapel pin will be presented their pin. Any surviving spouses will also be honored.

About the Vietnam War Commemoration

The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration is a program administered by the Department of Defense to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. The commemoration was authorized by an act of Congress.

March 29 was chosen to be observed as Vietnam Veterans Day, since that was the day United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam was disestablished and also the day the last U.S. combat troops departed Vietnam.

The free lapel pin is available to any veteran who served on active duty from Nov. 1, 1955, through May 15, 1975.
